Styling for a Significant Occasion

I recently attended my graduation ceremony for a post-graduate course that was mandatory linked to my non-personal styling role.

Initially I was not going to mark the occasion officially, for a number reasons. Firstly, I had submitted the assignment a year previous and due to this I had had received the official certificate last autumn. I reflected and changed my mind as, it had actually been a hard earned qualification.

Due to my IBS I often have a back-up outfit to see me through the ups and downs of this chronic condition. I decided to wear a retro-floral print inspired jumpsuit by Traffic People. It ended up being the most appropriate garment for this occasion.

The Jump

Due to my IBS I often have a back-up outfit to see me through the ups and downs of this chronic condition. I decided to wear a retro-floral inspired print jumpsuit by Traffic People. It ended up being the most appropriate garment for this occasion. Why? Well, I bought this jumpsuit a the same week that I submitted my final assignment in last year. I had thrifted the brand new jumpsuit after my first meanderings in a charity shop for a while, after dropping the little one off at nursery and I had bumped into a friend. They had, at that time bought a sushi franchise. The brief conversation we had en route to the station, turned out to be an inspirational conversation.

When I saw the jumpsuit, I Googled 'Traffic People' as I had not heard of them before. Sustainable, retro inspired and vintage pieces. Just what the sustainable personal stylist, as I was thinking of calling myself, ordered. I bought the jumpsuit, with the intention of curating some clothes that I would then do something with at some point as I started on my Personals Stylist business. However, as one of the original pieces that I bought in the early days of this venture, that I cannot seem to find the heart to let it go. So it was apt that I wore it to my graduation, considering the wardrobe yarns it held.

The Fit

The jumpsuit, a stretch satin was comfortable and accommodated my bloat, which was made less noticeable by the striking pattern and wearing a linen-mix blazer over it. It was actually a short fit, which was perfect for me as I am fantastically petite at five foot tall. I walked on stage in confidence, excitement and with gratitude beyond measure.
