August is the perfect time to bring your winter boots out from the back of your wardrobe where they may have been banished to during the balmy summer or to consider an investment purchase if you need a new pair. For autumn/winter 2025, a significant shift in boot trends is on the horizon, as after years of stomping around in chunky soles, designers are introducing new sleeker shapes and reviving classics that promise to refresh your cold-weather wardrobe. I'll still wear chunky soles for the school run, but it's also helpful to know my options.

Slouching can be good for you- The Slouchy Boots
Slouchy boots seem to be the preferred choice this autumn, revived by designers like Isabel Marant and Louis Vuitton. Whether you prefer bold choices—such as studded, sheepskin-lined, or suede—or a subtle leather knee-high with a slight crumple, there are plenty of options. Wear tan suede slouchy boots with a midi skirt and chunky knit for a cosy look, or pair brown leather boots with tailored trousers for a modern take. For a retro touch, tuck skinny jeans into your boots. Because I enjoy sustainable fashion, I've been wearing my slouchy boots all year round for as long as I can remember and so can you.

Boots are a second skin- The Skin Tight Sock Boots
On the opposite end of the spectrum to the slouchy boot, refined and tailored boots from designers such as Miu Miu and Chloé present a sophisticated interpretation of the sock boot, featuring leather that is expertly shaped to contour the ankle and thigh.

Slither your way into autumn- The Snakeskin Boots
It pains me to say, earlier this summer, I had an opportunity to purchase a pair of thigh-high snakeskin cowboy style boots from Jimmy Choo at a charity boot sale but ultimately opted for more conventional leather sandals, in snakeskin of course. Notably, snakeskin boots have emerged as a prominent feature in the autumn/winter 2025 collections, where they are paired with neutral, complementary tailored suits and trench coats by designers such as Khaite and Tod’s.

The Western-inspired boots- The Cowboy Boots
The Western style partly driven by the Cowboy Carter trend, have been in fashion this summer and are set to stay through autumn. Styles range from subtle Western details like curved toe caps to bold patterned designs, as seen in Gabriela Hearst's tassel boots. I recently parted with pair of western style cream boots that I had thrifted as the heel was too high for me. But it definitely made my fitted orange dress pop!

It's all about the hardware- The Buckled Boot
Tight knee-high boots featuring gold buckled belts are reminiscent of fairytale princes. This blend of whimsical and edgy hardware reflects a growing trend towards mixing fantasy-inspired elements such as gold hardware detailing or rebellious silver hardware accents, appealing to a diverse range of style sensibilities. Designers such as Miu Miu have embraced this motif with their recent collection. I am sure I have a buckled pair somewhere, I need to fish it out.

No more loafing around- The Loafer-Boot Hybrid
Prada's autumn/winter 2025 loafer boot blends a Penny loafer sole an ruching with knee-high calf silhouette, are unreleased but anticipated to be popular. These boots remind me of my moccasin-style slouch boots from Oasis, purchased two decades ago, which are still a staple in my autumn wardrobe.
The classic- Brown Knee-High Boots
Knee-high boots in brown are an alternative to black for those seeking a classic style. Hermès featured brown suede lace-up boots with a hiking influence, while Ralph Lauren and Fendi presented leather boots with a subtle slouch in a more traditional design.
Over the years, I've likely purchased more brown knee-highs than there are days in a week, and I still wear them occasionally, so I should probably refrain from buying another pair. Stay tuned!
