A wardrobe declutter can be cathartic act of clearing out your wardrobe to make space to and see what you already have to help you find a new style. It can also be quite an arduous task to do on your own. If you do attempt this task on your own, here are 3 easy steps to help you, that I have found useful.
Why might you want to declutter? Well, if you are like my friend and client Natalie, you may be returning to work following maternity leave, and your post-partum body needs to be dressed differently to your pre-baby body. You may also have clothes in your wardrobe that you have not worn for many years, never worn or do not know how to style.
Step 1
Set aside time. It can be a big task, but can be done in small bites. You may need to do a pre-declutter, where you clear out items you know that you will never wear or use again.
Get bags and boxes ready for these items, and know who a or where you are going to donate to or take to the recycling centre. So you may need two to 3 days to do this, on your own.
Step 2
Make sure you have at least one box of of good quality hangers. Once you have sifted through what you are really going to keep, then hang them up on those new hangers. They create uniformity. Then decide how you are going to arrange the clothes. There are many ways to do this. But a simple way is by colour and type of clothing. This will make it easier to dress and style yourself.
Step 3
Have long mirror near where you get dressed, so that you can see how your outfit looks as you are getting ready and before you leave home.
